A Day in the Life of a Trainee Quantity Surveyor – Meet Lucy Saunt

Tell me a little bit about yourself, your role at Argyle, and how you came about working for us

Hi I’m Lucy Saunt and I’m an administrator in the Roads and sewers division.

I’m joining college to expand my knowledge on the Construction Industry and become a quantity surveyor.

Before joining Argyle, I studied Level 3 Animal Management at college where I covered various studies including veterinary nursing. I passed all exams with Distinctions and was ready to move onto the next chapter. I then began to look for an animal related job I could progress onto however, a family member notified me about a position at Argyle.

Growing up with my family in the construction industry really intrigued me and I took the opportunity to join a fantastic company. I have now been working at Argyle for nearly a year and have been given amazing opportunities and the best support I could ask for.

What does a typical day look like for you?

Lucy Saunt at Work

I absolutely love the fact that working at Argyle everyday is never the same. One day I could be on site, and the next I could be at our head office with my awesome coworkers. I perform a mixture of roles including ordering materials, arranging the correct plant machinery, completing costings for all jobs to ensure we keep track of progress, assisting with the month end applications by completing stock checks on site, customer service, overcoming problems and making sure the site team can achieve key dates.

I regularly speak to different suppliers and build new relationships everyday. I work closely with Karl and Ryan in the Roads and Sewers division, and they help me expand my knowledge constantly by pushing me to achieve all that I can.

What are your goals within your career?

I have set high personal goals within my job role, and Argyle are allowing me to fulfil these dreams and I’m looking forward to one day becoming a fully qualified Quantity Surveyor.

I feel privileged and excited for the journey ahead and I’m so grateful that Argyle are supporting me through my education and allowing me to have time out of work to complete my qualification.

I am extremely dedicated and with the support around me I am sure I will achieve what is required.

What would you say to someone considering a role at Argyle?

I’m very happy at Argyle and the role I play, particularly within the operational work on site. Argyle started as a small, family run business and even as the company grows, you are guaranteed to receive the support from every level. Argyle are happy to invest in training and for you to get the qualifications you need to progress. Their growth as a company is inspiring and I can’t wait to see it grow even more.

I Believe Argyle value each individual employee. Everyone is treated fairly within the company and all needs cared for. Argyle really stands out as a company and is known for its high standard of work.
